Artist's Biography

Educated to a computer degree in Moscow, Russia, I was always interested in visual art. I began to draw with pen and pencil and paint with gouache and later switched to oil as my main medium. I am self taught in my painting however my mother being an artist gave me some tips and, most important, the inspiration. In Moscow I exhibited artwork in a number of venues (joint and solo) and received awards including the First Prize from the Festival of New Visual Culture 1997. I have found a compromise between art and computer in web design and computer graphics and worked in this area for many years. This career has brought me to Scotland in 2000 and inspired by the scenic location I have decided to take art more seriously and returned to oil painting after 8 years' break. I am a full time artist since 2006 and have my paintings permanently exhibited in art galleries across Scottish Borders, online and occasionally in other venues nationwide.

Statement
My main subjects are animals and landscapes with styles vary from realism to symbolism and surrealism. Inspiration comes from two different (or similar?) sources: nature and dreams and in my art I combine these two. In my animal paintings I concentrate on subject's personality often bringing some human expressions and surreal elements to show that we are not only thinking beings on the planet.
